What are the different room types in Cosmos?

Cosmos offers four room types, each designed for different ways of working and interacting. Understanding these room types helps you create the right environment for every situation—from spontaneous conversations to structured meetings.

Spatial Areas

Spatial Areas are open spaces where proximity-based video calling works. People close to each other can see and hear one another, while those further away cannot. This creates natural conversation dynamics where moving closer to someone starts a conversation and stepping away politely ends the interaction. Learn more about Spatial Areas here

When to use: Quick feedback, impromptu chats, networking events, and fluid collaboration without the formality of scheduled meetings.

Meeting Rooms

Meeting Rooms are like conference rooms where everyone can see and hear each other, regardless of position. The entire room functions as a single video call—similar to Google Meet or Zoom. Meeting Rooms include features like recording with AI transcriptions, breakouts, hand raise, and reactions. Learn more about Meeting Rooms here

When to use: Team standups, workshops, presentations, client meetings, all-hands meetings, and any discussion requiring everyone's full attention.

Personal Rooms

Personal Rooms are like having your own desk in Cosmos. You can claim a room as your home base, control who can join you with privacy settings (Open, Knock Required, or DND), and teammates can see if you're at your desk or away. Learn more about Personal Rooms here

When to use: Establishing your permanent workspace, signaling your availability to teammates, and controlling access to your desk throughout the workday.

Focus Rooms

Focus Rooms are library-style spaces for silent co-working. Everyone shares what they're working on and for how long, creating accountability that helps you get deep work done. Microphones stay muted throughout the session to protect everyone's flow, whilst cameras are optional but encouraged. Learn more about Focus Rooms here

When to use: Deep work sessions, silent co-working, and accountability-driven productivity with your team.
